Why Relationship Matters…

One of the great privileges ZEELO has is the opportunity to serve Gospel workers serving in places most of us will never visit. Recently, I spent time on a video call with a missionary family preparing to relocate to a country in the Middle East that has endured years of violent conflict, instability, and tremendous hardship.

As we connected, the Lord impressed on me that behind every ministry report, every church plant, and every Gospel conversation are real people—husbands and wives, moms and dads, and children—who are navigating the joys and challenges of following Christ in extraordinarly difficult places.

Rick and Susie* left the familiarity of their home in Europe to serve on the foreign as a way of preparing for their next—even more risky assignment. Lord willing, in they will relocate again, this time to serve a population where the need for Christian witness is critically important and where there are very few Gospel carriers.

Their ministry includes printing and distributing the Bible and Christian literature, strengthening the few local churches present, and investing in the next generation through discipleship initiatives. These opportunities are exciting, but the challenges are real. New cultures, new languages, security concerns, family transitions, and the weight of ministry responsibilities all take a toll over time.

As they shared their story, it was clear to them and us that the core convictions behind ZEELO's ministry are relationally based. Such relationships are even more needed because of the volatile context into which they are headed.

Many global leaders like Rick and Susie have sending organizations and supervisors. While these are important and necessary, many missionaries realize what ZEELO truly offers—trusted shepherds outside of their organization—who will listen, encourage, pray, ask hard questions, and walk alongside them without an agenda.

That is one of those unique roles ZEELO seeks to fill.

We are not another layer of management with reporting requirements and metrics. ZEELO is not asking them “to do more” ministry. Instead, we are a source of encouragement, connection, shepherding, and practical support for those carrying the Gospel to some of the world's most difficult places.

During our conversation, Rick and Susie shared something deeply encouraging. Although they are sent out by a wonderful (and very large) sending organization, they are craving the value of having a trusted relationship through which they can process life and ministry. That affirmation reinforces something we see daily: healthy leaders are more resilient, more fruitful, and better equipped to serve for the long haul.

One of the things people love most about ZEELO is that we work to build relationships long before a crisis arises. We begin with a single conversation, some time in prayer, sharing stories, and finding common ground in our efforts to fulfill the Great Commission. Over time, our connection grows, trust is built, and exceptional care is provided. Then when difficult seasons come—as they inevitably do—there is already a healthy relationship in place.

As our call came to an end, we spent time praying together for their upcoming travels, their marriage and young children, their transition, and their future ministry. Time and time again we find that the most meaningful moments of ministry are also the simplest: listening, encouraging, and pointing one another back to Christ.

To every one of our Champions at ZEELO we say thank you for generously providing the time, space and resources to shepherd trusted Kingdom workers with exceptional care.
